Current Activities

Network 8 is closely linked with the Schools for Health Research Group. We actually use the same e-mail list for both networks. The Schools for Health Research is a part of the general Schools for Health in Europe initiative (http://www.schoolsforhealth.eu). Within this, we are currently working on an edited research book which would represent the state of the art of the research in the field of health education and health promotion in schools in Europe. The title of the book is: Schools for Health and Sustainability, Learning, and Achievement: Theory, Research and Practice. All the ECER 2011 participants at the network meeting received the Call for chapters for this book too and many actually submitted an abstract after the conference. Negotiations with Springer are on-going and most probably they will be the publisher of the book. It is planned that the book will be published in 2013. In this respect, there is a collaboration of network 8 on the European conference on school health promotion, which will take place in 2013.

Future Plans

In relation to the work on the book mentioned above, there is a plan that a writing workshop will be organized during 2012 in Copenhagen, where the accepted contributors to the book will meet and work on the development of their chapters, give each other feedback and ensure coherence throughout the book. We hope to rise some funding for this purpose. If possible, we will apply to the EERA Council. Also we organize a summer school every year and we would like to apply for funding for that too. The first summer school took place in Copenhagen in 2010 at the Danish School of Education, and there were 30 participants from all over Europe. This year, the summer school will actually be an autumn school; it will take place 28.30 October in the Netherlands. Majority of the participants of these sessional schools are researchers and PhD students, but there are also practitioners from the field. We plan to apply to the EERA Council for 2013 summer school is possible.
